Dr. Bruce V. Lewenstein
Seavoss Associates Inc. is directed by Dr. Bruce V. Lewenstein, professor
of science communication at Cornell University and an internationally-known
expert in public understanding of science. Lewenstein's activities include:
- Co-chair, National Research Council study on "Learning Science in Informal Environments" (2006-2008)
- Member of the advisory board of the Sciencenter,
a hands-on science museum in Ithaca, NY (1995-present)
- Member of the advisory board of the Cornell
Plantations, Cornell University's botantical garden, arboretum, and natural
areas (1999-2006)
- Editor of the journal Public
Understanding of Science (1998-2003)
- Director of the annual Hopkins Workshop on Science for Journalists (1999-2002)
- Member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science's
Committee on Public Understanding of Science and Technology (1992-1998)
Lewenstein's undergraduate education at the University of Chicago (A.B., 1980)
combined courses in physical sciences and humanities. He worked as a science
journalist and remains a member of the National Association of Science Writers.
He received master's (1985) and Ph.D. (1987) degrees from the University of
Pennsylvania in History & Sociology of Science and in Science and Technology
Policy.
